Unusually warm night tonight..

Drove to the HNA this evening, and it was 18 degress celius; an unusually warm night. The parking lot was full, people were really enjoying the HNA tonight:

Very tranquil evening, got dark pretty quick and it defintely felt like a storm was coming. A lot of animals were out, I spotted several deer tonight and I watched a beaver drink out of the Sunshine pond. Didn't get a chance to take any pictures (except the ones above) or videos due to the fact that it got dark quick. But I do have a video from the spring that my wife took of a beaver drinking out of the Education pond, and tonight reminded me of that. Check out the video after the jump.

It was a very quiet foggy morning at the HNA today...

By the time I got to the HNA this morning, the rain stopped and it was a very beautiful quiet foggy morning. Brutus and I went for a nice little walk, we took the inner loop and then came down towards the Education pond and around towards the main area. Check out the pictures after the jump.

By-law right on time tonight...

Leaving the HNA tonight, by-law was right on time to lock the bathrooms and make sure everything is ok. Thank you!

It was a little wet this evening, but warm. Tomorrow morning is looking to be similar. Doesn't stop me. The best weather is yet to come, Winter!

Pictures from today... Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

It was a beautiful fall morning at Huron today, and both Brutus and I enjoyed an almost two hour walk throughout the area. It was a fun walk, however no coyote spottings today. :)

More pictures after the jump.

Aboriginal village discovered on Strasburg Creek

" A few hundred people lived in long houses, made pottery and grew corn in a medium-sized village on the banks of Strasburg Creek that was thriving 100 years before Samuel de Champlain set foot in Ontario."

Welcome..

Welcome to the Unofficial Huron Natural Area (HNA) Blog. My name is Martin Chmiel, and I am a resident of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Within our city area we have a beautiful natural eco system called the Huron Natural Area (HNA).  I have been coming to HNA for the past three years, with my dog Brutus (a King Shephard). We usually go to HNA twice a day, once in the early morning and once in the evening. During these times we see an abundance of wildlife, ranging from deer, goose, beavers, coyotes, racoons, ospreys, golden eagles, turkey vultures, chimpmunks, squirrels and more.  I have started this blog to share with you my daily adventures, my observations and knowledge about the Huron Natural Area.

HNA is a partnership between the city, the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) and the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB). The group aims to collectively maintain or improve the ecological integrity and stewardship of the park, and to help educate park visitors about the indigenous ecosystems of the area.
